We serve this at my church on St. Lucia Sunday. We also serve it at Waverly Place, just because. It is a very buttery and melts in your mouth.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, divided in half
- 2 cup flour, divided in half
- 2 T. cold water
- 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup water
- Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 T milk
Directions
Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes.
Cut 1/2 butter into 1 cup flour, mix in cold water and work like pie dough.
Divide in half and pat into two 9 x 12 inch oblongs, about 4 inches wide on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Melt 1/2 butter in 1 cup water, bring to boil.
Add remaining flour and mix well.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
Add almond extract and spread on oblongs, covering dough.
Cool on racks and cover with glaze. Slice and serve.
Yield: 20 to 24 servings
