We serve this at my church on St. Lucia Sunday. We also serve it at Waverly Place, just because. It is a very buttery and melts in your mouth.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, divided in half
  • 2 cup flour, divided in half
  • 2 T. cold water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 T milk

Directions

  1. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes.

  2. Cut 1/2 butter into 1 cup flour, mix in cold water and work like pie dough.

  3. Divide in half and pat into two 9 x 12 inch oblongs, about 4 inches wide on an ungreased cookie sheet.

  4. Melt 1/2 butter in 1 cup water, bring to boil.

  5. Add remaining flour and mix well.

  6. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

  7. Add almond extract and spread on oblongs, covering dough.

  8. Cool on racks and cover with glaze. Slice and serve.

  9. Yield: 20 to 24 servings
