This is a great, hot fruit starter that is perfect for winter time.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 pears (we like Comice or D’Anjou pears the best)
  • 4 T. brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup toasted and chopped pecans

Directions

  1. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-40 minutes.

  2. Grease 9x 13 baking dish.

  3. Peel, core, and cut pears in half.

  4. Arrange pear halves cut side down in baking dish.

  5. Combine all other ingredients except pecans and pour mixture over pears.

  6. Bake uncovered at 350 F for 25-40 minutes (depending on how ripe the pears are)

  7. Pears should be slightly tender when poked with a fork.

  8. Baste pears with liquid once or twice during baking.

  9. Do not overcook.

  10. I toast the pecans on the stove in a nonstick pan over medium heat, stirring frequently for several minutes until lightly browned.

  11. Let cool and chop finely.

  12. Serve hot on individual plates garnished with a sprinkling of toasted pecans
